Concerto Competition Results

We were treated to an afternoon of wonderful performances as 16 musicians took the stage at the Meyerhoff on November 14th to compete in our annual concerto competition.  The performers were incredible, and did not make it easy for the Baltimore Symphony judging panel to pick the winners.

We would like to congratulate Matthew Zhou as the winner of this year’s concerto competition.  Matthew performed the 1st movement of Beethoven’s 1st piano concerto with remarkable elegance and musicality and was chosen by the panel of Baltimore Symphony musicians to perform with the BSO at our April 30th side by side concert.

The Baltimore Symphony panel chose Gloria Cai as the runner-up in the competition for her performance of the 1st movement of the Dvorak cello concerto.  Gloria will be performing this concerto with HSGTSO at our February 10th concert.

The musicians of the Baltimore Symphony would also like to award an honorable mention to Madelyn Dwyer for her performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Again, congratulations to all of the participants.
